One of the reasons Wallowa County is so compelling to its residents and visitors alike is the mere fact that you can still see and enjoy most of it! Unlike many communities scrambling over the last bits and pieces of untrammeled lands, our challenge is to protect the integrity of a very special landscape and the economic advantage it provides this valley and its residents.
Much of this open space, with its scenery, also serves as habitat for a rich variety of fish and wildlife. Along with opportunities for solitude, this is among many reasons why both residents and visitors are so passionate about the valley’s future. These natural assets constitute the basis of a growing economic trend for many rural areas in the inter-mountain West, and deserve protection.
