Into The Wallowa: Wallowa Land Trust's 2010 Summer Outings
Into The Wallowa takes local residents and visitors on half-day guided outings to the Wallowa Lake Moraines and other significant lands throughout Wallowa Country.
All outings start at 9:30AM and end at approximately noon, are led by local experts, and are FREE of charge.

Confluence of Wallowa & Lostine Rivers

Spend a morning at the Confluence of the Wallowa and Lostine Rivers (known locally as the "Forks") on the Wolfe Century Ranch, learning what your local land trust is doing on the ground. We’ll explore the first Conservation Easement that Wallowa Land Trust is buying on agricultural lands and experience late summer in the lower valley.

Lower Valley History Tour

Discover the history of the lower Wallowa Valley. Our tour starts in Wallowa at the Wallowa History Center with local hisotrian Mary Ann Burrows, continues at the Wallowa Band Nez Perce Trail Interpretive Center, and will then travel to see where the first white settlers entered and settled in the Wallowa Valley in the 1800's.

Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site
with Tim Nitz, National Park Service
After three decades of controversy, the incomparable 62-acre Marr Ranch at the foot of Wallowa Lake was purchased in 2006 by the State of Oregon with the support of three Indian tribes. This is the first part of the Wallowa Lake Moraines System to receive permanent protection. You will learn the Nez Perce story and view the upper Wallowa River canyon along Iwetemlaykin State Heritage Site.

West Moraine of Wallowa Lake: Top of the World!

Hike the beautiful West Moraine of Wallowa Lake with David Mildrexler who will lead you to the crest for some of the most stunning views in the Wallowa Lake Basin. Much of the entire Moraine System can be seen and studied from this epicenter. Learn about the cultural and natural history of the West Moraine and the development pressures it now faces, as well as local citizen efforts to ensure its protection. This hike will begin at the northwest end of Wallowa Lake.
